300 Engine running too rich

I have a recently rebuilt 300 v8 in my skylark. I've only driven it a few times since I got everything put back together (I'm near Seattle so the weather only allows certain days for Convertibles this time of year).

I just pulled a couple of the plugs the other day to have a look & it looks like there is a lot of carbon depositing. I basically bolted on a brand new Edlebrock AFB 500CFM & haven't played with the jets or air-fuel mixture screws at all (only idle) - it really runs great as-is, electric choke works great as well.

I'm thinking of just having the carb tuned professionally somewhere, as I've not had much sucess in the past trying to monkey around with them myself.

I've heard that running too rich on a new engine may cause the rings to not seat properly. Any truth to this & how soon should I take care of the problem? Experienced opinions welcome.

I do not know about the carb running rich causing rings not to seat correctly, but I do know that when you firt take a newly rebuilt engine out to drive for the first time you shoud drive the car at about 40mph or so and accelerate to 55 and let off gas and let car coast back down to 40. This should be done around 11 times or so. This helps to intially seat the rings.:beer
