Hey guys, Some of you may have ready my post about hot starting...this may be related. My 300-4v iron intake has two ports under the carburetor that seem to direct exhaust (?) up to the carburetor. Anyway, what are these for, and are they easy to plug? How would I go about doing this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Aaron
There is supposed to be a stainless steel plate covering those ports. NEVER try to run the engine without it. They are connected to the exhaust. Why they are there, its for those cars driving around in cold weather, speeding up the time it take to get a drive able temperature to the carb/engine. If you live in a "hot weather area" the best thing to do is also to block the passage/port at the head. Lars
Oh...mine didn't have a steel plate, but it does now...I think I need a few more to get it away from the heat...it starts better now, but not perfect...I'm not going to pull the head or the intake to plug the port, so I guess it's something I'll live with...Thanks! I'm learning Buicks little by little thanks to help from you guys! Aaron
There is a none metal heat insulation "gasket"(sorry, cant find the right name for it) Bay one off those in stead, adding more steel plates wont help. This "thing" will. Lars
Hope i did not trick you, if you go for the insulation "thing", it must be used with the steel plate placed down under! Always a steel plate at the botom :Smarty: Lars
On my 340 i used one of the stainless shims then a 1 inch thick swirl plate made from aluminum seems to woork real good. Thanks, Josh
Thanks for the info, Josh... The only problem with the spacer is that my air cleaner sits kind of high to clear the fuel line on my Edelbrock carburetor. I'll see if I can find something similar to that though...Thanks again! Aaron
Oh i see i got the pro flow cleaner its up out of there and not real tall either, but they say them swirl plates help to mix fuel does any one know how true that is. thanks Josh
