About a year ago I had to have my oil pan welded to fix the stripped nut inside of it....... It has never really been the same - meaning it now will drop some oil out of the drain plug. I've tried different drain plug gaskets, permatex, etc......

Anyway, there is a 65 Skylark in the junkyard here, and my question is can I remove the oil pan as it is in the car? Or do I have to undo the motor mounts and jack up the engine? I dont have any air tools so lifting the engine might be impossible for me...

Or does anyone have a good used (no dents and does NOT leak oil through plug) 300 oil pan w/plug?

    Thanks

Got the same mess with my 64 300 oil pan. Nut is stripped and and an oversize drain plug is in it. Leaks a bit and would like to weld in new nut. Why do people over tighten these things. :af:
Been a while since I pulled a pan in the car, but remember the motor had to be lifted off the mounts. Exhaust crossover had to come down (single exhaust) and am pretty sure the pickup screen had to come down.
The 64-68 pans are all the same I think, so the 65 pan should be fine.
    Good Luck,

The pan was dented at the junkyard....

I know that the 340 and 350 Buicks share the same gasket, but would a pan from these engine fit in the frame of a 65 Skylark?, or do I have to find a "300" oil pan?

    According to my 1975 parts book, p/n 1374509 oil pan fits all 64-67 300-340 and 68 350.
Have never swapped one, but they should be the same.

    hmmmm......
In my old Year One catalog, they have a 69-72 350 oil pan...Maybe something changed from 68 to 69..... I will email Sean (BuickCityPsycho) and see if he can shed some light on this one...

Is the 300 and the 350 oil pan the same??? I've got a blown up 300 motor with an oil pan that has a slight dent in it and I've got a 350 motor that has an oil pan in really bad shape(lots of surface rust, etc)...If the pans are the same, I would re-use my 300 pan on the 350 build that I'm going to be doing...

Anyone ever find out the answer???

The small block oil pan changed for the 350 in '69, all previous small block pans are the same. 64-67 300 66-67 340 and the 68 350 all used the same pan. I have a '67 pan for sale, $40 if you're interested? txgwildcat@aol.com
