I am putting a set of 65 300 heads on a 340 motor. The guy that had the 300 had a valve job done on the car about 10,000 miles before he wrecked the car and pulled the motor. That was in about 1975. I bought a Fel Pro head gasket set and I wanted to put the new valve seals that came in the set on. These are the kind that look like they should go over the valve guides. when I started taking off the springs there is no valve seals on it. I tried to put one of the new seals over the guide and it doesn't fit over it like it should. Whats the deal here? Does the guides have to be cut for these seals? Whats going on with no seals when I tore it down? Just for the heck of it I took a spring off a 340 head and it doesn't have valve seals either. Somebody in the know tell me the story! I want to get this Buick out of the garage and on the road! Thanks for your help, Mike

I'm pretty sure the guides have to be cut for the seals. Not a big deal, but a machine shop kind of thing.

    seals

    hi, mike

I just tore down a '67 300 and it did not have any valve seals either. If you don't want to machine the heads $$$ for the newer style ones - I betting that the 215 umbrella type 11/32 valve stem size will drop right in. I bought a box of of them a while back and still have some left if you go this route.

let me know - Doug B.
