300ST passing gear

    My passing gear doesnt work on my 300ST (2 Speed) I know that it has the kickdown switch on the gas pedel it seems to look fine but I'm going to take it out and clean it or try to replace it. but if thats not it what else could it be? Thanks

    Make sure you have +12v going to the switch. The power source is the same one for the radio. Make your radio fuse is good.

    The gas pedal switch passes 12 volts down to the trans connector. The switch can be tested with an ohmeter, no need to remove or clean it. Put an ohmeter across the 2 terminals on the switch, then operate it by hand, and see if the switch works.

    Turn the ignition on, disconnect the kickdown connection. Put a test light or voltmeter on the disconnected wire. Have someone operate the gas pedal switch. The test light should light, or the voltmeter should show battery voltage. If not, check for power at the gas pedal switch, and fuses.

    Use a jumper from the + side of the battery to the vertical connection on the trans. Listen for a click emanating from the pan as you touch the jumper to the connection. If not, the downshift solenoid may be bad, or the wiring inside the pan is bad. The solenoid is an easy fix, but you must drop the pan.
