I'm about to start ordering all the stuff to do a top half rebuild of my 1967 340.

The TA Performance catalog has pages of stuff for the 350, but no mention at all of the 340. The Poston catalog has cam & lifters for the 340, but no intakes?

    Are the parts the same?
Does TA make stuff for the 340?

    Thanks
    Rick

As far as parts interchanging, I think the 340 shares more with the 300 than the 340.
Well, I'm not sure about everything (I think the 300 might be shorter, so intakes won't swap) but in cam catalogs, they have 300 and 340 (and maybe 215 as well) cams together and 350 on their own.

This is sounding like it's going to be a bummer.

I'll go try the link you provided.
    Thanks!

i am not an expert on 340s but i do have one in my lesabre. as far as i can tell you nobody makes any parts for them except cams .no one makes any manifolds. they do make headers for skylarks. i have had people tell me you can use roller cams from the 215 ,they have same basic block design. but don,t let that get you down, because it is a good engine. my lesabre conv.runs low 15s. stock with just a mild cam with stock 290 gears, not bad for a car that big.

I was always under the impression that the 350 was a bored out 340. I think I read that somewhere.

These are from last summer. Right now the car is buried in parts and boxes in the back of my garage. I haven't worked on it since last summer. Hopefully as soon as I get my convertible on the road I'll be able to get back to this one. I've had it since I was 16.
It was my daily driver for about 2 years, then I stuffed a 455 in it.
I beat on it for awhile with the 455 till it blew. The block was wasted so I trashed it but kept all the goodies for it.
I started to tub it about 5 years ago, and am VERY SLOWLY making progress.

I've designed and built the cage and all the rear suspension myself. The rear end is a Ford 9" with an aluminum Strange carrier, Mosier axles and Wilwood disc brakes. As you can see...I still have a very long way to go.

    :gt:

I know I started this thread asking about the 340 engine, but it looks like I may have found a 455 for my convertible. So thanks for the info on the 340, but I'll wait till I see what happens with the 455 deal before looking into the 340 stuff any further.

A 340 bored .050 over will give you a 350. However, the 2 engines are still completely different.
The cranks and rods are pretty much interchangeable, as well as the timing cover, distributor, and things like that.
You could bolt on 350 heads, but you can't get a cam for the different valve configuration, the 340 used step sized cam journals, they get smaller as they get towards the rear of the block, the 350 uses the same size cam bearing all the way through. Jim Burek p.a.e. enterprises

    The 340 was a two-year engine, 1966-67.

I believe that the crankshaft and connecting rods are the same as the 350. Not much else, and very little speed equipment.

Aftermarket MSD distributors are available, but headers are no longer made.

If you want speed and speed parts, get the 455.

Hey Rick do you have the exhaust manifolds off the engine? I'm wondering about the size of the runners - I've read that the 340 manifolds are larger than 215/300. Any chance you could check?

    Hello
I won't have the engine here until this Sunday so I can't check for you till then.

It is now confirmed that I have purchased (2) 455 engines (one for my convertible, and one for my tubbed car) so I'll be selling the 340 as soon as it gets here. The guy thats bringing my 455's is interested in the 340. He'll be looking at it when he delivers my 455's on the 13th.

Now I gotta get rid of that 492" BB Chebby and tranny. Looks like I may have it sold already too! A guy looked at it last weekend. I'm waiting for his final decision.
