Still stuck in park for the heat/choke piece...........any help :ball: I am looking for the heat/choke plate for a 70's 4BBL Q-Jet. Wayne S
I don't know if you realize it but you have a late model intake and carb. The Buick heat/choke set-up will not work with the carb you have. You have an Olds choke set-up. What year is the car? If pollution controls are not inspected in your area, get a 70-2 4bbl set-up. The EGR was a bad idea from day one.
The engine is a 72 not sure what year the intake is from (8-1289169 - date code? E 28) but the carb numbers came back as a 75 455 with auto. Using the above, what do I need to do to set it up? Wayne S
Well, the carb is for the Olds style set-up which uses heat tubes and not a linkage for the choke set-up. I "think" the 76-80 Buick intakes had the Olds choke set-up. Not sure. I think your best solution would be to sell the carb, scrap the intake and get the correct set-up for a 70-2 4bbl set-up.
Anyone want to swap...rebuilt carb, bead blasted the intake and then coated with Eastwood's stainless paint. I guess the 2bbl is going back on till I find a set-up...nut-bunnies Wayne S
Wayne, Email me direct at GStage1@buickperformance.com I occasionaly find 70-2 4bbl set-ups in the local yards. If I find one, I will get it. You may find one here but it could take a while.
choke Wayne, I may have a choke plate left from my '76 455. I will look in the garage but it may take a while to find. You could make one out of 1/4" plate and some copper tubing.
Thank you George...part of me wants to leave the later 4BBL on and find pieces, that way I don't have to buy another gasket set. I'll pop over an email just case. Don, I have concidered it...I have some plate and copper laying around. I found out today that the early 4BBL's had a diapham pot for the pump and that the later one's had an electric solinoid idle, so I have to figure out the wiring for one if I go that route because the intake doesn't have a mounting spot. Decisions, decisions. o No: Wayne S
Wayne, Here is the correct 4bbl set-up on Ebay now in Washington DC. Shipping weight is approx 44-48 lbs. Use FedEx Ground to a business for best shipping rate. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972...ewItemQQcategoryZ10076QQitemZ4593997588QQrdZ1
Thank you Sir! :TU: I dug that one out this morning...still waiting for a response on shipping. Wayne S
Run it back up the flagpole and see what pops up...I can work around the idle stop solinoid but really don't want to make the choke piece if I can find someone who has it laying around collecting dust. Wayne S
