Hey IgnitionMan - Are the ignition timing curves for a 350 and 455 the same, or similar?

    I've got a '71 350 points dist, a '76? 350 HEI dist, and a '72 455 points dist. Currently the 2NABOT has a 350 in it, but I'm working on a 455 for it.

I Understand that the 350 and 455 distributors are the same except for the drive gear. I've got the 375 center plate, 41 weights, and Crane advance kit Ignitionman suggests for a 455 HEI, can I put it all in the 350 until I get the 455 ready?

I believe they are different ignition curves.

Any idea what's different, initial, total, vacuum, or rate?

I've currently got the HEI in the car (350). It starts easier and idles better, but the curve's not right. Pings right before shifting at wot.

IgnitionMan, I re-read some of your previous posts :Dou:, you've got a PM.

Not sure the PM went, so here goes.

Are the parts you suggest for large-cap HEI's (center and weights from late 70's Suburbans) for the 350 or 455? I've re-read previous posts, and can't figure that one out :Do No:

    Thanks,

Yes, available in wrecking yards, and in new ZZ crate engines.

Look at the weights and center, you need 41 on the weights, 375 on the center. You don't need the whole dist, just those three parts and a Crane 99600-1 adjustable vacuum advance kit. Go from there.

The centers for points distributors for small and large block Buicks are very different. Stick with small for small, big for big unless you have a distributor machine and the know-how to change a lot of stuff.

OK, Dave, I'm really dense...do you mean:

"Yes the above mentioned weights/cam are for a 350?"
    Or
"Yes the above mentioned weights/cam are for a 455?"

Or, more accurately, which weights/cam work best in a 350?
I'm trying to get the best out of my existing 350 HEI, while saving my sheckels up for one of your 455 points/hei conversions to go in the 455 project engine.

From previous posts, mostly the 41 weights and 375 center are mentioned in the BBB forum, and you say "small for small, big for big", but then they come from a Suburban or ZZ 350 smallblock.

Why do Texas Aggies have high shoulders and flat foreheads?

From going :Do No: and :Dou: all the time...

    Thanks!
