my 70 skylark 350 runs great....only problem is , usually before the engine is fully warmed up, when i put the pedal to the metal, the engine makes a loud pop and there is a temporary lose of power.... any ideas ?? thanks
If you have that Edel on a stock intake you might as well forget it and throw it in the trash. Those square bore type carbs (all 4 holes the same), DO NOT work with a stock intake, the adapter screws up the whole system. YOU MUST have a Q-Jet with a stock intake or get yourself a 650 cfm Holley double pumper spread bore and that will work, but will need to be tuned correctly. This is for stock intake only. If you have a TA intake the Edel will work with tuning but I think still is fair at best. I gained 30 Hp on the dyno using a 750 cfm Holley double pumper square bore with the TA intake. As compared to using the Carter AFB 750 cfm basically same as Edelbrock but I think the AFB is the better carb . If you don't know how to mess with any of this then I would get a Q-jet and let one of the guys here that rebuild them, they do a great job with those carbs and the car will run right, they probably have one on the shelf for stock engines if you cannot provide one.
Typically the Edelbrock carbs will run rich at idle and cruise and will be leaner @ WOT when you want more fuel. If you're going to try to use one, get an O2 gauge of some sort to help you tune it. Those rods, springs and jets in the Edelbrock carb are a PITA! GL
