here's the thing everybody puts chebby 350's in their s-10, well being a buick guy, i'm thinking of doing a buick 350. the truck in a 92 extended cab sonoma. i was wondering if what's the difference in external block size between the two? also i'm a stick guy, so i was wondering, with an adaptor plate, can i run a new venture 3500 with the 350? i know i'm going to run fuel injection if i do this. does anybody make a FI kit for the 350 of is it something i'm gonna have to peice together? also how much hp can a stock block handle and be daily driveable? I know it's alot of question all at once but any help would be great. thanks in advance

    Sounds like a good match.

I don't think you'll find a EFI for the SBB, but they can built from the edelbroke kits for the Chev 350 if you are willing to spend some coin. Frankly, unles you have a VERY wide climate range the EFI is not worth the gas savings or meagre power gain. A well built quadrajet will do more for you IMHO.

Block sizes are surprizingly close. Remember a 455 and 350 all ran in the same car. Basically they are wider up top.

350's have run up to 1000 HP and lived. As for a streeter, I'd say 400 is the "fun" limit...

The stick is gonna be a lot of mods for you.... I'd see if you can get your hands on something that worked with that engine to begin with...

i've heard that the 454 is too big for the s-10 so i assumed that the 455 was also. you don't have the engine room as the gs i don't think, and the 350 is alot cheaper.

As far as climate, i've seen it be over 105 degrees in the summer and as low as 0 in the winter. so i think an EFI would be worth doing just so it all runs ok. plus i am in the ozark mountains and there are some great differences is hight from here to other places i would be driving so with an EFI we wouldn't have a tunning problem.

how much modification would need to be done to the trans. i really want to keep the overdrive but that can be worked around with a gear vendors or something like that, just more money.

The engine wont fit without some cutting of the firewall and some other modification.
    At least you'll have air!

a 454 chevy is not too big for an s-10. my last chevy before i swapped to buick was an 82 s-10, i built with a stock 454 out of a wagon. the only problem i had to use stock exhaust, no headers and i had to move the stearing column over about 2 1/2 inches.

then a 455 should fit. that means i'm going about this search the wrong way.
now is anybody making an adaptor bellhousing, or an adaptor plate for my 5sp, and if you need to modify it, what needs to be done? i really want to keep it a 5sp and probally step up to a 6sp later. thanks again guys

the 4speed flywheels are out there.. but that won't be all you have to do there. you'd be better off building the snot out of a choice 200 best if ya find one out of a t type or gn.

i stopped by oreilly's today and looked in one of their books, the input shaft for a 4sp out of a 70 buick is 10 spline by 1 7/8" input shaft diamater, the same with the s-10. so why can't i use the trans, get an adapter plate and shim the flywheel? just a thought. also, i've been told i have to remove the heat core, is this true, or does anybody know? Thanks again guys

I believe "doc" on this board has done a SBB S-10 swap, and I seem to remember him mentioning moving the steering column to make things fit. As well, there was a guy on here who did a 455 S-10 drag truck, but the whole doghouse had to come off to do all the fab work, such as custom-made headers. Certainly not plug & play like a SBC S-10.

I put a 350 sbb in a 85 S-10 2wd, it fit, but was tight due to wider heads. Had to put extra u-joint in steering and move middle to left to clear heads. Also had to cut and box frame for starter and dent frame for right side ex-manifold. No room for fan. Did not have AC but was tight at heater box.

One of my books state that with cast iron manifolds, the BBC is only 1" wider than the SBC but it is 6" longer!
