Ok I have a few questions.
    1. If you have decked the block by .020 and taken .005 off the heads do you have to take any thing off the intake manifold to have proper allignment?

    2. With question #1 in mind, if you don't change any thing on the intake will the ports match between the intake and the heads?

    3. When porting and pollishing the heads there is a nub in the cumbustion chanber right in front of the spark plug hole, should this be left alone or ground off and made smooth with the rest of the dished area?

Any help with these questions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jason - If you had .025" total taken off, you need to shave the intake side the same amount. Instead of shaving the intake - shave the intake side of the head. That way...you don't turn the intake into a 'mutt' - you could still swap it onto another engine without being forced to make other modifications.

You should set your intake onto the engine with the heads to see where the bolt holes line up (the intake hole and the threaded hole in the head). If the hole in the intake is higher than the hole in the head - that verifies that the intake side needs to be shaved to lower the intake down and vice-versa.

I'll leave #3 to the experts. I haven't personally compared leaving or smoothing out the bump. Only thing I can tell you for sure - you don't want any sharp edges in the combustion chamber!

    Thanks Scott.
I whish the machanist that did my block for me would have told me to shave some off the heads. I wouldn't be looking at pulling the engine apart to fix things that I didn't do right the first time.

Jason - How do the intake/head holes line up? Also, without a carb on the intake, can you see how the ports line up between the intake and head?

Scott I did notice that when I put the intake on the holes didn't line up exactly the way they had before and the bolts on one side were a little harder to put in. I really didn't notice with the carb off how the ports lined up. I have the TA STAGE 1 intake on it so it doesn't line up exactly any way with out doing some gasget matching on the heads.
On another not I found a bad lifter yesterday and I guess on bad advice I continued to drive it. Now I can hear a backfire if I give it any gas at all. I think that I may have wiped a lobe on the cam or bent the push rod. I've never been really happy with the TA212 since I first installed it last year. I think it may have been defective as far as I don't think that it was ground properly. Since I have upped the compression to over 10/1 I think that I really need a new cam any ways.
The good news is I finally got to drive the car for a few miles and the new rear end I just installed works great. No noise at all. No leaks. If I can ever get the engine to work again it will be nice to step on it and see what a difference 342's make over the 273's I took out.
