After looking for my 80 350x hp info I found out once past 1971 the 350 never had more than 150-195hp and 1980 was a good year when you look at the rest.

    The best year were,

    68 230hp / 280hp
    69 230hp / 280hp
    70 260hp / 285hp/ 315hp
    71 230hp / 260hp

70 would be the best year as you know your getting atleast 260hp with out much trouble.

I really Don't know much about engines but once I start to compare the head cc and the cams with the other years.

I could have as much or more hp than any year 350 or close to a 403-455 if I just raised my compression. From what I can see I just need more psi and I could almost double my HP.

chop .010 off the deck or use a .020 instead of a .030 gasket???

Remember, the HP ratings were changed from gross to net in 1972(?). That 71 engine and the 80 engine may be closer in power than the numbers show. Actually, the 80 Engine will have more advantages than the 71 and before engines. Better oiling, better rods, larger exhaust valves, and the fact that its only 23 years old instead of 30+.

Would you agree with my heads and cam all I need is more compression????

I understand how the 70s number are gross but even then in comparrsion my motor is better, it just low on compression.
