I'm going to get my 1972 Buick 350 5.7L engine rebuilt.
    Any suggestions ?
How much more hp will I get if I get it bored out with new valves ?
I have a new timing chain set installed and custom 2.25 pipes with Delta Flow 50 series on it. I had the engine out an tighten up and re gasketed and a new water pump put on as well.
I had all that work done and the head gasket went , it was smoken a bit any way.
Does this mean it needs the rings replaced, if it smokes ? That is what they told me at the shop.
I bought the car in June and have had it a the shop most of the summer.
In December I'm going to give it back to the shop to get a complete rebuild on it .
I would appreciate some advice ?

    exhaust smoke

Exhaust smoke is a good indicator of what is happening in the engine. White smoke=blown head gasket. Blue smoke= bad rings or/and oil is being burned in the combustion chamber. black smoke= engine is running rich. I would perform a compression test and follow it with a cylinder leakdown test to check the internal components of the engine. I'm currently working on a project for my 1982 Bonneville. I'm going to install a GS114 cam, 800 cfm carb, and TA intake. It will be back with a 400 transmission w/ a shift kit and 2200 stall. I hope to have it together by the latter part of this month, and I'll share the results. I hope this helps.
