    Casey,
Have we ever had a 351 Cleveland in Pure Stock, beside Benoit's Mustang. Particularly interested in 70's 300 hp, or 71 285, Cj or Ram air cars.

yup, I ran my 72 Gran Torino Sport (Q code 4 speed) for 3 years running, I ran Chris Jones 1970 Torino GT convertible (M code 4 speed) and ran my latest 1972 Gran Torino Sport (Q code auto) last year. Ron Tuttle also ran a 1972 Gran Torino Sport (Q code auto) last year as did my other friend EJ Bowen with the 1974 Cougar XR7 (Q code auto). Tim and Rhonda's dauughter also ran their 1972 Montego GT (Q code auto) last year and year before. I believe it was year before last, a 72 or 73 mustang ran with a Q code 4 speed. Let me dig thru pictures. My Torino WILL be back this year as will Chris's convertible with a fresh motor. Tuttle bought EJ's XR7 so that should be back too.

I was just curious. didn't remember seeing any. I knew Chris had the convertible, be interested to see how it does with gears and a fresh engine. I've often wondered how a 70 M code Falcon would fare. should be considerbly lighter than Chris, but a lot less motor than the Q code cars. Maybe best to run the 71 boss Mustang version.

Why not a 300hp 351C 1970 Mustang or Cougar? Should be lighter than the 1970 Falcon or the 1971 Mustang.

I've had Mustangs, just like the looks of the lo-buck Torino's or 70 1/2 Falcons better. I realize they're heavier. Chris's 70 is the only one I've seen at PSMCDR. I just found out from some research, how much stronger the CJ and Boss versions were. Never really paid any attention......having too much fun with big blocks to care.

Have any 1970 351C Mustangs or Cougars ever run Pure Stock? What were there best times? I'd like to get some idea since this is a combination I'm thinking about. Thanks!

Before we put the Cobra Jet motor in my Black '70 Mustang, it had a stock 351c in it. I had built the motor before I decided to go racing, when the car was just going to be a weekend cruiser. I think 13.98 @ 102 mph was about its' best at the time. It was'nt in the car long because the CJ motor was coming. It did have a Holley on it instead of the Autolite carb. That was with a 4sp. also, auto would probably go a little quicker.

Just curious, do you remember what size the holley carb was that you had on it?
Also, did you ever weigh the Mustang with the Cleveland in it?

Now, now Chris, no Holleys allowed on that in June or September.

Just a universal 600 cfm Holley. One of the 1850's. As far as the weight, I am guessing around 3300-3400. Never had it weighed with the cleveland, though. Yeah, no Holley allowed in Pure Stock in a '70.

I know that! I have the original Autolite 4300 and a few other 4300's to try out at the track.

Tim, ver have your's apart? The float pin does have a correct direction it has ot go in. We learned this last year with rons. It was put in from the wrong side and worked its way out allowing the float ot drop and pump gas everywhere. I never realized this but we found it out thanks to EJ. And if you REALLY want to set it up, I have the number of someone out in California who knows these carbs top to bottom and inside out.

Gotta say, after buying Ron's '72 cj this past winter, we've had some surprising results dialing in the carb/timing/trans/exhaust. Not sure if I'll make it to muscle drags, but we're having a great time on woodward!
