:Do No: Does anyone know if all big cars 70-72 had 4 core radiators if they came with a 455? Are all 4 core rubber insulatpors the same from model to model?

4 core tanks share the same configuration. Don't know of any full size models with factory 4 core rads. Just buy the new repro 4 core bushings.

When you say big do you mean anything greater than a 3-4000 series Buick?

Here is the dilema. I have an early 70 skylark vert that has the plastic fan guard with the metal radiator supports. The car was originally a 350 A/C car and had a 3 core radiator. I want to know if the plastic guard and metal support parts are compatible with the 4 core radiator I have installed. It does not seem like it. I have never had the rubber insulators, and have been trying to fit ones from Rivs and Estate Wagons, but, it does not seem correct.

I have removed the A/C option from the car. My previous 70 GS was a May production date car, it had a metal fan guard and was compatible with the 4 core.

You know the GS including the Stage one only used 3 core radiators? Going back to the correct radiator would solve your problem.

    true

I agree, but is that does not satisfy my querry. :Dou: I have enjoyed 4 core radiators over the past 20 years that the thought never crossed my mind to go back to the 3 core. :Dou: Any idea on what parts I need besides a three core to make it all work?

Is the problem that the bottom support on an A body of the core support is not wide enough for a 4 core or is it just that the distance between the tits on the upper four core insulators will not fit a 3 core top plate?

    not the tits!!!!!

I am mostly concerned with the top as the bottoms mould around it well enough. The top rubbers dont seem to fit the contour of the radiator. I am guessing I have 3 core rubbers and the tits fit the support just fine.

For that I have seen the inside of the insulator shaved with a sharp blade to make the rubber fit the contour.

I thought the four core was an option on GS? I notice too that the plastic guard seems like it wont fit over the engine side lip of the radiator, and to do so, the reach is wrong for the support brackets all together. I know, another 3 core issue. :Smarty: I just dont rememebr this hassle when I had the metal guard.

All A bodies were 2 or 3 core depending on eqiuipment. I think some of the 5-9000 series were 3 core but most I have seen were 4 core.

I have a 4 core radiatior in my 71. I think I used the Chevelle/ Monte Carlo insulators. The nipples on the insulators were spaced slightly different, but they popped in just fine. the radiator plate was compatible and no other changes needed to be done to fit the 4 core in. The 4 core thats in my 71 is a generic 68-72 GM A body rad. The brand I have is Go-Dan Industries. Made in Mexico. Heres a pic of my friends 70 GS (original 350 car) with a 4 core installed

I've tried that with a blade sharp enough to carve a cow. I hacked it to shreds. It's a pain in the a$$ and it ends up looking like crap. But that's just me. :pp

I actually need these 4 core cushions too. I've been putting it off.

    4 core radiator insulator

I used the KISS solution. I put a 4 core in my 67 Riv which originally had a 2 core. The driver side fit fine on the top. I found no easy fit from several top rubber pads from various yrs for the passenger side(the wide side). Rather than modify the top radiator support which is narrow, I used a piece of mountain bike inner tube cut to size. One or two layers of this fit fine. Unless you look really close, no on could tell anything was not original. Holds the radiator fine. No overheating problems now! Spring is here in Idaho in the bananna belt.

Pete, I was thinking sort of the same thing. These four core radiators, how they differ from the originals, is the area of the tank on the passenger side does not line up with the original location of the lower cushion. And since you can't use the nipple hole location for the cushion because then it won't support the radiator under the tank, you have to move the cushion to where it meets the tank, and it sits higher then.

The rubber inner tube is a great idea.
