I live about half way between Thompson & Quaker City so I'm planning on making it to at least one of the events this year.

The launch is one thing. Would like to ask a further question here since we're talking about rowing gears down the track. Who are power shifters versus regular shifting?

Power shifting is when you're pulling or pushing on the stick hard while accelerating, never let off the gas at all, and push in the clutch while you're already pulling or pushing hard into the next gear. It's much faster and more deliberate than regular shifting sequence.

:3gears: back when I was Just out of high school and had my 68 GS 400 4speed, my nickname was "4speed" because I could power shift faster than lightning.
I did find out one thing, and more than once.
the old M-20 doesnt like 500lb ft of tourque when ya slam 2nd gear.
cleaned 2nd gear teeth off of several.
plan on shifting the stage1 the same way when Its done! but with a beefed up tranny :3gears:

My Judge will not hold a 1/2 shift when power shifting. It will hold the 2/3 and 3/4 shifts.

I mellow out the 1/2 to try and hold traction then give her the berries for the rest of the shifts.

Who uses the clutch for power shifting? Just wiggle your big toe on the go pedal and yank.

Actually, I don't do that on the Ramrod, but used to on some of my other cars in street racing. Rough on synchros, GM trans hate it. My B/MP Valiant never seemed to mind, though. We found out the firewall (wwhat was left of it) was flexing to the point that the clutch wasn't disengaging anyway, so WTF.

I do power shift the Ramrod in all gears in the matches, but take it a little easier and just quick shift it in time trials. Made a big difference on the original shifter when I converted the linkage to the aftermarket Hurst dop-in and drilled and tapped the shifter body for the overtravel stops like the aftermarket shifters.

Wait until you see someone show up at Pure Stock powershifting a 3 on the tree car. :Brow: :Brow: Now that takes some practice, talent, and a lot of spare transmissions. They don't like to be in 2 gears at once.

Thought I would add my 2cents, I'm the guy with the SC/Rambler at Stanton. Engine is completly stock except for .030 overbore, close ratio T10, 3:54 gear. Best et 13.9, 101 mph. Timing is 16 degrees, total is 38 degrees @ 2500rpm. 40 lbs. in front and rear tires. 60 ft. is about 2.2 but seems to come on good at the far end. Have played with carb jetting but doesn't seem to make any difference in performance. As for launching, I found that this car does best coming out at 1800 rpm, roll out, then get on it like you stole it. Have thought about changing to a 3:91 or 4:10 gear, but we enjoy taking it on weekend trips so I'll stay with the 3:54. May not be the fastest, but it sure is different looking.
Hope to see you at Stanton, sure would be nice to see more AMCs. Bob
