    Simple question for someone out there...
    I just discovered my '67 400 has .060 over pistons. So what cubic inches am I running now?

    Thank you

    That 400 (399.74 CI) has a 4.04 x 3.90 bore x stroke from the factory.

    .060 overbore is 4.10 bore.

    CI = 1/4 PI (0.785) x D2 x stroke x 8 (for an 8 cylinder)

    That's:

    0.785 x 4.10 x 4.10 x 3.90 x 8 = 411.71 CI

    So that's 412 CI in real life :Smarty:

    Pi x radius squared x H (stroke) x 8 cylinders

    diameter = 4.04 " + .060"

    radius= 2.05"

    stoke = 3.9

    Pi = 3.141592

    (I am unsure of the bore /stroke for your engine).

    Thanks guys,

    I didn't know the formula for figuring out the CI. I know Calculus and don't remember the real math as much anymore :laugh:

    Hello George!

    It's always a pleasure to hear from you. Thanks for all your advice this past couple years and I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates you sharing your wisdom with us :TU:

    About it running hot, I drove it in December for about 150 miles on the highway and it seemed to be fine, just underpowered, but that could have been the 2.56 geared rearend.
    However it does not have a temp gauge (that will be corrected as soon as it's put back together along with an oil gauge)

    What did you put on your freeze plugs before you installed them? some have said loctite, others nothing. I'm wondering what is best. I'm going with the bronze ones.

    Thank you,

    Its always a pleasure Todd especially to another `67 GS owner,i didnt personally build my engine but i think i recall seeing some of that brown stuff around the freeze plugs,i would definately not rely on the idiot light as my `66 was running hot and the light would not go on,good luck and keep us posted,if you any other help shoot.

    Thanks:TU:

    The Machine shop I worked at used 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive, AKA "Gorilla Snot", for freeze plugs and any bolt that entered a water jacket. I have followed their lead and have yet to have a problem.

  9. you can bore a 400 out to 430 specs so i highly doubt a .060 over 400 would have a heating issue because of thin cylinder walls. Bob

    My 430 is a bored out 400 and it doesn't run hot. I have a large aluminum radiator BUT only a small electric fan.
