I'm looking for a starter for a 1959 block 401 with a dynaflow transmission. If you have one or know where to get one would be great thanks.
I should have a couple . At least one . Both should be from 65 cat 401 or 66 riv 401 . If those work for ya let me know . My zip is 13849 if you want to guesstimate shipping . Actually med flat rate might be fine = $15 .
I think I gotta have one with the solenoid facing down. I bought one for a 63-65 the solenoid hits the block. Which I do t get. Wouldn't a 401 from be the same as from 65. Doesn't make sense
ANY '64-'66 starter will NOT work on a '59 block. Not even a '61 will work on a '59 block. ONLY '59-'60 if you want a BOLT-IN.
tom : ok , good to know . have to cover at work a little later , will check . rock : can you get yours rebuilt or is it MIA ? EDIT : checked carquest and sister ship advanced auto - no dice that i can see . starter drives , solenoid , brushes etc - no starters .
I have several nailhead starters, lemme look to see what I've got. Maybe I can help. We'll see. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
I junked a '59 or '60 engine, I have the starter, I will try to check the numbers this weekend if I can get out to the garage. It would be considered a rebuildable core as I have no idea if it is in working order. Brian.
If the starter in your garage had been rebuilt at some point over the years the numbers may not be correct. If you could post a pic of the starter it would be a great help to the OP.
