Is there a way to make a 4500 carb work on a 4150 style sp1 intake I need to upgrade to a dominator if a can make it work with my intake ? Mike
Yea i have seen that spacer before but with the stock gs hood i don't have the room for the 2" spacer and they don't make a 1".But anyone heard of having the intake machined out and redrilled to fit?
Why not replace your intake with a dominator intake and sell yours. I did have one that had been machined from q-jet intake but was a fair amount of work. The TA intake will sell well on the board or ebay and you can get the proper intake probably for less total expense than modifying your intake. I think you could make the 1/2" spacer work using the q-jet mount holes and some work with a die grinder but will not work as well as the dominator intake. The extra carb bore spread of the dominator seems to help torque even down low. With the spacer and standard intake I would bet you wouldn't see the same power increase at lower RPM. I made a 1/2" dominator to standard holley adapter for an engine I sold a few years ago should be able to do it the oposite way also.
Yea you got a very good point about the long run being cheaper.I was just try to figure out what it was gona cost to do the change over .The carb is a big investment at $1000 and the intake I would go with spx at $375 and then port work.I'm just tring to get rid of the car running lean and hopefuly pick up a tenth or two. Thanks Mike
Mike, I have the same issue. I run a stock steel hood with this **1/2 inch** adapter (P/N 1930): http://www.mrgasket.com/pdf/CarbFuelAcc.pdf http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=788&prmenbr=361 John
Mike I have the SP1 that I took off my motor.......So far the Wildcat has only matched my 9.63 best..... My SP1 could be for sale,Let me know if you're interested.
Be aware that the SP-1 dominator intake will require a bit of "cleaning up" in the plenum. I have always been pleased with TA parts, with this exception. They rough cut the plenum to fit the larger throttle bores, and these cuts require blending. Definately not a bolt on.
TA makes an adapter that will bolt on to the q jet bolt pattern. Then you hog out the manifold to match. I did it on mine, wasnt too bad. Jeff
