    i've seen a bunch of 427 '66 Impala 2 doors, and a bunch of 396 wagons, can't remember a 427 wagon though in '66, especially a 4 speed 66 wagon.. doesn't mean it doesn't exist..

427 4-speed 425 horsepower station wagons are as real as it gets. Guy named Dick (Richard) Fox used to race one at Osceola Dragway. Don't know how fast it would really run, cause he only went fast enough to just barely win. The car was sold recently with documentation, on e-bay. I always wondered what happened to the car when he retired and moved west. If you check out the protecto plate, you can see that the seller forgot about being able to read the original owners name and such.

They were real, I knew a guy in Pa in the '60's who had one. Met him after he wasted my '65 GTO in an impromptu "Acceleration Contest" at a stoplight in Clearfield, Pa in 1966. Woodgrain and all!

One does exist it was delivered to Obrien chevrolet in spring of 1966, It was an SS impala 427 with 4-spd bucket seat marina blue with matching interior. the reason I am positive is My friend and I were walking home from school and we always walked by the dealership to check out anything new. We saw the wagon come off the the truck !! it is owned here locally by a women who shows it anually at the Cleveland autorama in the winter. Wish I had a pic but I do not. P.S. Should have read the remaining posts ! but hers is an SS427 wagon so it might be one of one ?? Gary / Moz

That would be a one of one as far as I know. I thought RPO Z24 was only available on the Impala Sport Coupe and Convertible. That is what "Chevy by the Numbers" indicates as well. The L-36 427 was available in a Wagon and in a Caprice but 'supposedly' neither got the SS package. I guess anything can happen. And the bucket seat thing is sort of funny because it sounds like a Z03 SS package. Maybe it is a SS car with a 427 motor, but it probably is not a SS427.

I'm gonna have to see some STRONG proof of a bucket seat SS427 Z24 stick shift wagon in 66...

My buddy Dave should chime in here any time now....Dave where you at???
He has a couple 66 427 cars including a wagon. He'll have the facts on what was built.

Perhaps I am mistaken on it being a 66! it might be a 67 ?? But I did see it come off the carrier truck !! I'm old but not that old !!  besides it is in the local autorama periodically !! Moz
