I bought a set of these off ebay 2 yrs back advertised as cast pistons for a BIN $229. I offered $200 and they were sold.

Ray or anyone else What cubic inch would you end up with with these and what compression in a stock block and 70 455 heads?

A 430 bored over 0.030" gets you another six cubic inches. Though the pistons are advertised to achieve 10.25:1 compression, in reality due to the excessive deck height on these blocks you'll probably see something in the mid nines. You'll have to measure everything to know for sure.

I picked this stuff up the other day from an ol hot rod guy who had a 430 with the intake and an m21 behind it back in the 70's. Scattered the engine and trans and he was going to rebuild it all but decided 40 years later not too! .............Cole

I would guess TRW or Sealed Power from the part number, they look like nice forgings.

Question: if you would do a stock rebuild of a 430ci would it be an advantage to use forged pistons?
Or do you only use these for higher compression and buidling a Hi-performance engine?

    Thanks!

the only downside to forged pistons is cost. If you could get them at the same price or cheaper than cast, I'd go forged every time.

It offers a level of protection if you run lean and get some detonation ... and with todays' crappy fuel coming out of the pumps its a good level of protection

OK, so longevity would be better too...today's engine's only have forged pistons right?

Absolutely not; too expensive and unnecessary. Production uses cast pistons and manages detonation via electronic control of fuel & ignition timing.

I know about the electronic control etc. I don't think you find cast pistons in a VW, BMW, or any other modern car? Isn't a forged piston a more precise product? And much tougher? Thanks.

Tougher, yes but again the additional toughness is unnecessary for a production driver. In fact cast pistons (especially cast using a hypereutectic alloy) expand less for a given temperature increase making them quieter because they operate with less piston to cylinder wall clearance. There are some high performance production engines with forged pistons out there these days like Viper and ZR1 Corvette, but the vast majority are cast.

Has anyone purchased a set of these and can vouch for the quality of the pistions? :Do No:
