Hello I have found a pretty cool looking 1965 skylark wagon. It is in decent shape but I want it as my project car. It has a 310-4 with a 3 speed manual transmission on the column. I also have a 430 a th400 from a 69 riviera, my question is how hard would it be to get this engine and trans into the wagon?

what headers and motor mounts would work?
or would all the clutch linkage match up to a 4 speed?

    thanks for any help, will

Hi Will,I am putting a 430 in my 64 skylark wagon,i was told it will work,i had to get the frame and motor mounts from a 455.I havent finished the motor rebuild yet but i have sat it in place and it does fit.I am converting mine to 4-speed,so i'm not sure about your linkage. You will have to put a rear sump oil pan and pick-up on it if the engine has a center sump oil pan also.I am just going with custom exhaust made to fit factory manifolds so i dont know about the headers ,have fun with the wagon ..Darren

    thanks for the fast reply!

would the motor and frame mounts work from the riviera?
    Would my 430 manifolds work?

I was just plannning on freshening up the 430 maybe a little cam and a good intake and carb. What rear end do these normaly have?

    thanks again, will

Hi there, nice swap! The mounts you need come from the 67 GS, they are available @ TA. Check out the Oil pan and pickup tube-you may need a different one- also pretty easy to find. You will love the combo. :beer

Somebody bought the 430 and the fixed sator ST-400 tranny from my former 68 Wildcat and installed it in a 65 Skylark 2 door hardtop which previously had a 1966 340 and a ST300 with a 1966 floor console. He also bought my 76 Electra 455 oil pan and pick up tube but didn't tell me what else was required to fit the engine/tranny in the car. I know he must have done something else like replacing the driveshaft, engine mounts, etc.
Recently, the car was sold and the new owner installed a hotter cam and another carb on it. I heard that the car now runs 9's in the 1/4 mile.
I'm wondering if he did something to the transmission as it had about 150,000 miles on it 5 years ago...
This guy also owns a blown Chevelle that's supposed to be quite fast!

    Oil Pan?

Hi, I am trying/going to be this summer a 75 455 into 65 special swap. I have heard that the 455 needs to be rear sump. Is a 455 from a 75 electra rear sump? If not can I just go to a junkyard to get one or should I buy it new (expensive?).

Yes the pan is a rear sump on the 71-76 full size Buicks. It's what you need.

The Riviera oil pan has a center sump so it doesn't fit in the A-body cars.
    Right?

    Anyone know?

Hi, 76 455 th400 into 65 special with stock rear end. Does anyone know if there will be much of a performance gain? Does anyone know any stats on what a 65 special can do in 0-60 or 1/4?

You should go faster. There are lots of things to do on a '76 455 engine to go really fast, but you have the cubes to do something with. :TU:
