    gs4u2c Is that a 442?

Not sure how you'd have more fun with an Olds 455 versus a Buick 430? Torque and HP are basically identical.

    I'm with Tim.

What's the real attraction to the Olds 455? What's wrong with your engine? Why can't you have fun with that, and why is the Olds 455 more fun than the 430?

Just from your description, the 430 is not only probably in better shape (junkyard engines...oh, that has a nasty sound to it), and will do you just as good.

I guess the real questions are:
Who convinced you the Olds 455 would be better?
    What's wrong with your 430?

A near dead 430 is better than a live Olds motor in my opinion.
430's are really fine engines that live in the 455 Buicks shadow like an unloved stepchild.

I can tell you that one of the fastest cars I ever owned was a '69 Riv 430-4 with an unknown cam (not stock) cast iron intake, exhaust manifolds a modified Th400 and 3.42 posi.

That car on huge old L-60-15's was crazy, Hammer it through 1st gear bang second at about 5500 and both of those meats would go up in smoke and the car would go sideways (a very impressive display)

Go with the 430 it's weaknesses are easily overcome.
