Going to assemble my short block this week end and I just want to be sure about the details.

1st, assembly lube or 30 weight on the main and rod bearings? I think my machinist told me to use one on the mains and the other on the rods but I can't remember.

2nd, torque specs on mains and rods. Two things I've heard on this that I questions. One is that ARP rod bolt torque is different than factory specs and then something about mains being torqued different if you use moly lube or 30 weight
(it talks about this in the dove book but I'm just confused by it).

Last spacing of ring end gaps.

I know this is basic stuff but I just want to be sure.

Oh yeh, and why won't anyone answer my thread on oil pan baffles?:Do No:

    Thanks

You can use either an assy lube or oil on the bearings, either one is fine. Do not use the black moly type lube on bearings.
Arp rod bolts for the 455 torque to 50 lbs using the moly lube.
ARP recommends 90 lbs of torque on the main studs if using moly lube and 130 if using 30wt oil. The moly is much more slippery so it requires less torque.
You mostly want to keep the rings staggered, the top and bottom compression rings should be positioned 180 apart from each other, I typically have the top ring face the passenger side of the block and the second ring the drivers side. Then I position one oil rail about 45 drgrees from one side of the wrisst pin and the other one 45 degrees from the other side of the wrist pin, both gaps towards the drivers side of the block.
As far as pan baffles, you definately need one at the rear of the pan, just above the rear shelf of the pan, this one is typically about 5 inches long from the rear of the pan and mounts 2 inches below the semi circle cut-out at the backof the pan, You will need to notch this baffle for pick-up tube clearance.
About a 1 inch baffle on each side should be good and same at the front of the sump. Make sure your pick-up tube clears all baffles.
