I have a 71 GS 350 . i would like to purchase a buick 455. I found one in a 1968 buick cantury 4 door . everything is there brackets, AC ,ALT,carb exhaust manifolds, ect. Looks just like in a GS 455,minus the Ram air air cleaner. Whick i Have one anyway.correct me if im wrong but would this NOT be a HIGH OUTPUT engine ,is there a difference with a GS? I read that vech built after 1970 compressiom ratio was reduced from 10.5 - 1 to 8.5 - 1 in 1971. Does this mean that the 68 century has 10.5 - 1 and HO ? Several concerns i have with this deal is he said it ran ,did not look like it had been ran for years, which is no problem because i would do a rebuild before installing it.Also paint like original. The other concarn is when i pulled the dip stick ,the stick said on it 4 qt capisity ,instead of 5 ???? I would think tnat the 70 buick gs had a 5 qt. pan but this is a different car so i would think that you could chande ,oil pump ,pick up tube and oil pan.also the radiator was empty he said they drained it before freezing weather when they purchased it . i would hate to go through all the work and have a cracked block from a freeze. You never know.He wants $600.00 for the engine with transmission . I dont need the trans but he said thats the deal. I would gladlt buy all yhe brackets and pulleys because i see you can buy GS 455 off ebay but you mey have to buy without brackets and extras , all these extras are the same as GS brackets. I guess back then they used the same breckets on different cars.SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ?Educate me on this matter.I could look up horse power specs i guess but i might be better off buying off ebay or look for a better deal. But here on the gulf coast Buick 455 are hard to find. Thanksand please respond R. Davis freakazoid@cableone.net
