'lo, My 455 is back from the machine shop & I need some info on putting it back together. I purchased the motor 10 yrs ago as a fresh rebuild. It's a .30 over '70 block & heads, new crank bearings, grooved cam bearings, stock pistons (stamped .30), w/ TA shortie headers. The block has been decked and heads milled for 10 to 1 compression. I don't know exact specs offhand. The oil passages have been drilled 9/16 i believe & I think the decking is the second go around as no 2 digit/stamp was visible near the dipstick before it went out. I intend to run the SP1 and TA 310 cam & complete cam set w/ a rebuilt Q-jet,cfm unknown. My goal is simply a lot of low end grunt to really move this heavy tank red lite to red lite & have an aggressive lope/exhaust note. No interest in spinning the motor too high but want to know it's there if I need it. I'm running pwr steering & brakes only, equipped w/ 3500 stall & 3.73's Is this buildup consistent w/ my goals for a mean cruiser? Is an 850 cfm carb better for this or is 750 cfm enuff? Specifically, is there a better cam choice or am I good 2 go w/ the 310? What have I overlooked? Thnx in advance for help measuring twice so I can just cut once. Sincerely, WG
"Stock" and "Stg 2" = oxymoron I did not know shorty headers were built to fit iron stage 2 heads. They were an over the counter option with less than 100 sets produced.
oh, then specifically it's NOT stg 1. I don't know the cam specs of which the motor was appointed w/, so i'll correct that. I'm not usuing it nonetheless. The headers are from TA purchased a yr ago. The mock up fit when checking clearances. WG
