Can someone tell me what these carbs are for? Both are 7040240 MD 's built about a month apart. Whats up with the linkage? Is one correct for a 70 GS 455? Thanks , Sam

I know they are 70 455 auto carbs, my question is about the difference in the linkage. Can anyone tell me what model buick they're for? thanks, Sam

The one on the left looks like a correct 7040240 (front and rear vacuum breaks.) The one on the right looks plain funky. The body may be a 7040240, but the whole choke assembly has been swapped for something much newer.

Appreciate the info, haven't owned a GS since high school. Got a rusty GS 455 and need alot of answers. Thanks again, Sam

    Look at E-Bay # 370002029081.
Vac pull off bracket for a '70 455 manual shift car. Look similar to yours?

My GM Parts book from '81 lists:
    '70 455 all take a # 7038726.
    '70 350 AT # 7038727
    '70 350 MT # 7038246

I'm no expert on carbs & I've seen this book out from the US edition a couple times. I do have a complete carb. # 7070247 from a '70 455 RIV. available.
Cleaned, rebushed, kit & float installed. Not set-up in a car yet.
Let me know if you might be interested.

Thanks for the info, these part numbers are on the break? Don't need the Riv carb, have one, just trying to get the correct one for the GS. Appreciate the help.

Can't be sure on that. Numbers on the individual parts from this 7040247 do not agree with catalogue numbers I have. My book is showing replacement numbers where as the parts are stamped with possibly original numbers.
Ex: Vacuum break control & bracket assy. Stamped # 38730, book shows 7038726.
May need someone knowledgeable in carbs to chime in on this one.

    Hi Jim,
It's a '70 Riv. carb for sure. Trouble is I can't match any individula parts between the numbers stamped on the part & the GM parts book I have from '81. Likely they are listing " replacement" numbers?
