I have a 72 455 engine that was built this spring (april-may) to go into my 69 convertible. we had pulled the original engine so it could be rebuilt at a later date. Well that 400 is at the engine builders and will be done in a week or so, and with that, I am going to have the 455 removed and sell it. My original thought was to leave it in the car and not worry about the 400. Since that time I have started to simplify my life and the car shop I had to store cars and parts is gone. Hence I may as well sell the engine, as I really wont need it now and do not foresee needing it in the future.
    Here's the specs
    30 over bore, cast pistons
    10 on the crank
    all new bearings
TA stage 1 cam, lifters pushrods
TA performance oil system and new front cover, and water pump
    Edlebrock alum intake.
    Edlebrock 750 with electric choke
All nuts bolts and hardware was ordered new from TA, infact the invoice from TA was apprx $2500 in parts. No expense was spared to build the engine right.
This engine runs superb, nice smooth idle, excellent oil pressure, and pulls hard. doesnt leak, and runs cool.
At this point, untill the 400 is complete and ready to install, sometime in the next 10-14 days, anyone interested is welcome to come drive the car, and feel this engine for yourself. There are no surprises with this one. Very simply, a solid well built 455. Nothing was modified for exhaust or intake, so essentually a stock build. Nice thing is my mechanic who built and installed the engine, is also a board member who understands and has built numerous BBB engines over the years.
Apprx 1500 miles on the engine. NEVER been on a track. The Ebrock valve covers can be sold, but they are additional. the engine will come with stock covers. Ready to install
    $3850

What a deal :eek2: , just spent approximately twice that on a build. That's little more than the parts alone. Much less machine and assembly cost. WOW

    Don,

You are correct, I do have more in this than the sale price.
I have a choice here, sell the engine, or buy a car to put it in. I know what the left side of my brain is telling me :Dou: but that also means I have to visit with the "crack spider" again, and he continues to feed my addition. The right side of my brain keeps nudging me to just sell it.

I would take as well cuz that is a good but I cant right now because if I swap out the engine in my skylark I would want to put in a new transmission as well. (its kind of like if you give a mouse a cookie book) I will sit on the thought of this motor right now. I am 1.5 hours away and fly out of Cedar Rapids airport all the time.

    Roy,

I can strap it to a pallet and shrink wrap it up for shipping. bet it could be done for less than you think.
This engine would make that car just talk to you. Or take the 400 out of little red and drop this in. With a 4 speed this engine is wonderful. put the 400 on the stand it will come with, and keep it safe.
Second best thing in life and its completely legal. :TU:

No clue on HP or torque. Never dyno'd it.
Fast enough that you get one big grin from ear to ear.
Another of the guys who has built engines for me, D&R Racing Engines drove the car the other day for fun. His response was that for a stock built engine this runs fantastic. This coming froma guy who builds hi perf engines all day long.
Jeff, who built this one did an awesome job on it.
