Since msc66 can't seem to post pics of his rebuild, I thought I'd try to help out. That's msc66 doing the final washout before we start to assemble.
Time to degree the cam, sounds easy enough, right? Let the fiasco begin. It was the first time either of us had degeed a cam and it was obvious by the second day attempting this procedure that it's easier to say than it is to do. Now that we figured it out, either of us could probably do it in a matter of minutes.
Note the book, cam card and calculator on the engine. None of it helped the first day. Once we "got it", we couldn't believe how easy it is.
He only had to hit each slug about 5 times to get them in. Kidding of course, used the butt end to knock them into the bores. Lined up each compression ring gap over opposite sides of the wrist pins with the oil ring gap off at an angle from them. With about 6" of 3/8" fuel line around each rod bolt we started installing pistons taking time to plastigage each bearing before applying assy. lube for final installation. Again, they were all @ .0025.
We need more threads like this on the board... cool to see the progress documented with photos!! :TU:
I too hate it when I see perfect garages, well I think I hate coming home to my mess of a garage. Looks good, And i might have to alert the local authorities about the stop sign in there :Brow: :Brow:
FYI... Cheapo Depot and Lowes sell "remnants" of vinyl floor rolls for dirt cheap. I bought 2 and used them to cover half of my garage floor for when I did my engine. It keeps things clean and looks good too.
looks great! But Jeff, first you have to find the floor! Between my mess, the wife's mess, the kid's stuff, I am lucky to find the car! BTW - I thought a good bearing clearance was .0008 - 0015"??? - Bill
now this is how a garage should look. this is where board members kevin(wolverine) and johnno like to work.
Hey give me back my Car  Mine had those same cooper tires when I got it. Burn those baby's off :3gears: :3gears:
I like these step by step build series things... Especially since my first engine rebuild is probably pretty soon
