what are you guys doing about handling on these 455 regals, front and rear springs and shocks? are the v6 springs and shocks good enough?
I have a 84 cutlass and I used grand national springs up front(I was told thay are the heavyiest gbody springs) and gbody wagon springs for the back. I tried stock rear springs and it was a$$ dragging big time. This was 10 years(thay might make springs better now) ago. My car has a 455 olds motor in the pictures and the rear tires are smaller so thay are not the best pictures to go by. The car is about stock hight but the rear is slightly higher. I posted pics in this tread. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=99500
The best G-body springs are 1980 Pontiac Grand AM or Grand Prix SJ. They're the heaviest rated and are 1' lower in front 3/4" lower in the rear than other G-body springs. They were only used the one year and are, or were available from a couple of suppliers. They can sometimes be found in junk yards on the Grand Prix SJ's The GA's are nearly impossible to find since only 1643 were built. 1980 is the only year this holds true.
first off how do you want your car sitting high, low, level front end lower i use plan old use GN springs and the car sat level you have to decide what stance you want then you can choose a spring
i kinda want mine to set slightly higher in the back. right now it still has the old stock springs and it sets level but doesnot ride good and is rubbing in the front in a hard turn and rubs in the rear when i hit a bump or step on it. i have 275 60s in the back and 215 60s in front. am also pretty sure the shocks need replacing too.
The best cheap springs I had for handling in a G-body were used springs from a 4cyl S10 with just a little bit of trimming. The ride wasn't too terrible.
