455 should i keep?

    heads # are 1241860
    the block # are 1241735
    intake # 8=1245061=1
    It's in A 72 GS 455 car just got the car gave to me.Not in bad shape.
    New to the group and buick so fogive me.but i realy like the car.

    Nah, that's all junk. I'll come by and haul it away for you.

    Just kidding. A 455 is always worth keeping. I'm sure someone here will break down all the ID numbers so you'll have a better idea of exactly what you have. Good luck.

    Block was the same number 72-75. They look like 73 heads so the engine may be a 73.

    ran the numbers and it says its a 72 73 74 block the heads come back as 73 74 stock or stage 1 or service replacement just wondering how can you tell form that point?

    If it's the same motor in the other thread ZF, it's a 74.

    You'd have to measure a valve to see if they're Stage 1's. If it runs good, stick with it.

    There's nothing wrong with a 74 block. Down the road it would be just fine as a foundation to put on some of the aluminum heads (or some already built iron heads from someone going to aluminum). If you have to have a numbers block, you'll have to wait anyhow. Enjoy it how you have it.

    What are your short and long term plans?

    thanks for the help.just did not get how to tell if it was stage1 heads or not. sorry about the other post first 2 days here still learning the site.thought this would be a better place to post this one.

    I plane on bringing the car back looks any way the motor i want to have a fun street/strip car.

    No prob! I didn't want to make it sound like you were doing something wrong my posting this message. I was pointing out the 2-letter code importance when trying to figure out exactly what year it is. Each year used a different first letter code.
