Got a question for all you engine builders out there, during the teardown and inspection of my 464 I noticed that the bearing hole in the thrust bearing did not align up good with the hole in the block cradle.I was prepping for my oil modifications when I noticed it.It looks like the block is off not the bearing. Any one seen this or had any similar circumstances. Thanks Bryan Fant
I can't speak about Buick engines, but it's common as dirt for the block and bearing holes to not align in Oldsmobile 455's, and misalignment is so bad on Ford 390's that I don't understand how the bearing stays alive. Some folks open up the hole in the bearing, some folks open up the passage in the block. On Olds #1 main, you do both. Someone else will have to guide you on Buick applications.
This is quite common as a matter of fact. You will usually need to chamfer the oil holes in the block on at least 2 or 3 of the main saddles. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERRPISES
