Anyone have an idea what a complete Carb to Oil Pan '70 455 Weighs?
I am trying to estimate cost to ship one.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Thanks Bob,
Track photographer's shot of my car at MusclePalooza X in September. That was when I cracked a header tube so I was done for the day. But the shot was really nice so I ordered it in 14 X 11. Wish I could scan it, but it is too big for my scanner. All I could do is take a picture of the picture. It's really clear so this doesn't do it justice

From what I've read over the years, if the BB Buick has the heavy cast iron intake replaced with an aluminum one, exhaust manifolds removed, it is 15# heavier than a similar SBC.

I know with aluminum heads, intake, and headers instead of exhaust manifolds my engine was blowing in the wind on the cherry picker. :eek2:
It has to be the lightest V8 I have ever had to install. (455)

With aluminum heads it weighs less than a SBC

That's what I remember from the old Kenne-Bell info too, for what it's worth.

As already stated, I've heard 616lbs. Lightest BB of the era. As a comparison, a stock SBC weighs in at around 575lbs.

200lbs more than an 1800cc MGB engine. (by actual weight
With alloy heads and intake, about 100lbs more.
Since the MGB engine weighs about 330lbs, that'd be 530 and 430 respectively but I don't think that includes ancillaries and flywheel.

    Larry,
Thanks a bunch! I just found a very old issue of Hot Rod Mag & it said the 400-455 weighed in at 600 lbs while the Small Block Chevy weighed in at 550 lbs. Of course this was before Aluminum 455 Heads & such.
    Thanks Guys,
    Doug

I wonder how the 400 lost 16lbs. It seems like with the smaller bore with the same exterior dimensions as the 430/455 it would be the same or heavier?
I was also under the impression that the 472/500 Caddy engines were almost as light as the Buicks.:Do No: I'm not disputing anything just curious.
