I know I've seen on here somewhere before, but I can't find it using the search function. Anyone know the weight of a complete 455? What about a TH400?
The buick 455 is about and if im not mistaken, the lightest big block around. I know if it isn't the lightest, it's pretty close to being the lightest. :Smarty:
Hmmmm, I don't think so. See the following link: http://www.241computers.com/ford/ContentExpress20-30-38.html A BBB is within 50 pounds of a small block chevy. They are very light motors for their size.
This should be right Even a 426 Hemi (A Fabulously and Legendarily heavy engine) is not 800 pounds. A Ford 390 is over 700 too if I recall, but the Buick 455 is a svelte 616 # if memory serves Seems hard to beleive, until you try to pick up a Buick 455 block...and find you can do it
http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/oftrn.htm#TRAN Auto Transmission Comparison ww.442.com has an excellent FAQ that covers an incredible array of subjects. they say a th-400 weighs 190lbs.
Turbo 400 < 200 lbs including convertor. BBB is published in several places @ 616 and is supposed to be the lightest BB.
I've read 616 too many times, I'm not sure what that included. If it's just the bare block or if its the engine as it would come out of the car.
If the engine is 616 fully assembled, you could get that down under 500 lbs if you used aluminium heads and intake and slapped on some headers
okay, then scrap the manifolds, Heads and Intake included? If so the weight savings there would put you close to 500 lbs.
Supposedly the pop can heads are good for 60lbs and that factory anchor of an intake has got to be good for another 40lbs. 100lbs right off of the front...NICE! :bglasses:
