    Anything special I need to mention to the grinder, other than 4.050 BBC journal?? He saying $400 to $500 sound about rite?? Seems fine seeing how its $125 to polish one

    Have him index it Ethan.. he should be for that price. It's about what I pay, for one that is magged, indexed and offset ground .150..

    Other than that, no... it's pretty straight forward.

    Ensures the rod and main mostly rod journals all travel on a parallel plane to each other,...from what I remember

    Crank indexing insures that the pistons/rods on each journal pair, reach TDC in exactly 90* intervals.

    Buick cranks are pretty good from the factory, so I am told, but when you start offset grinding them, error can sneak in..

    Make sure they pay attention to the fillets. I've rebuilt a couple where the grinder was careless.

    These guys are really good, they do Gene Fultons stuff,..you never hear anything negative about their work,..I'm skeptical as always tho

    A crank stroked for a 482 needs the sbc journal size. And to get the full .150" they will need to grind to the .010" under size to ensure a full cleanup.

    How arr you getting a .150" offset with a 2.200" BBC rod dia.

    The 482 uses the sbc rod journals not the BBC that was cleared up by Derek a few post above,..the 470 uses the BBC journal

    And someone on a budget that wants to still build a BBB 482 can use a set of Ford 5.4L mod rods that are 6.658";

    And AutoTec pistons to get the pin size and proper compression distance for the 5.4L rods. The big end will also need to be narrowed .012" to get the correct rod to rod side clearance.

    Those rods are rated to support 600 HP or can get these and buy better bolts for them;

    Or these for a little bit more that are rated for 750 HP, the same notations as the above posted rods;

    Besides the offset grinding to 4.050 and indexing. Is there anything else that should be done? like fitment of the aftermarket balancer? any machining to the rear main seal? anything else?
