Get this, we hired a new guy where I work. he is a car guy and turns out his Dad has passed away and they are trying to clean up the farm since they have not decided what they are going to do with it. One of the cars sitting in a field is a 1955 special two door hardtop. Been sitting for years and years, they would like to sell it if possible, I have not seen the car, interior is mice destroyed, one quarter is rusty, will be going to look at it.

So what is a car like this worth roughly?? What are the places to look for rust or problem areas??...this car is complete and untouched. If I actually decided to do something with it, it would defiintely be a rod...no more restos for me...I sure like the LS1 powered machine I saw on another thread, some big rollers, modded LS1 auto, dropped would be the way....Or perhaps for parts.

Turns out good friend of his 63 Wildcat (he thinks...) and other Buicks too...small world...

    Any ideas appreciated. Thanks

    Tim

Hey Tim, I would look at the floor pans and rocker panels closely but that car seems to be getting pretty hard to come by and realy worth fixing up. I would estimate if MOST of the sheet metal is good and the chrome is ok I would say no more than $1000 more so about $800 or less. I paid $1000. for my '58 2dr ht 4 mos. ago and it had been in dry storage for 20 years all chrome and stainless is great and body is perfect. (Not running of course). Hope this helps you in you decision.....Gary

Watch for rust on the roof post between the back glass and side windows and top of quarters in same area, rockers especially at the back of door opening, front bottom of hood corners where it meets the grill, floor pans, trunk floor under lip at rear inside, I pay from $100 to $300 here in mississippi for parts cars with out title. I might go $1000 for a complete fairly solid car with a title. I paid $3000 for this one and drove it 300+ miles home

I paid $500 for this one to much but he dilivered it 150 miles to my house and I wanted the dual exhaust bumper, manifolds, chrome valve covers, and 4 barrel set up for my driver bad. I've bought much better parts car 2 dr ht's for $100 but it usually cost $150 or $200 to get a roll back to bring them home.

    RE: '55 Special

    Hey Guy's

As Far as I'm concerned, I just LOVE mid-'50's Buicks. The 2 door hardtop is Especially desireable. Just love the push pedal Nailhead start. Very Quaint, Singular, KOOL, and Nostalgic.
Buy the way JUDD, Those '56's of Yours are pretty "Special" Themselves

Judd, that slammed buick is badass. Is it bagged or c-notched. I currently have a 53 Pontiac Catalina 2DR HT that I'm going to make into a rat rod and that Buick of yours is along the lines of what I'm looking to do. SCHWEET !!!

It is photo shoped. A guy did the lowering on the computer for me I was/am thinking about doing it as a 50's rod. I probably should sell the thing before I spent a bunch of money on it. LOL.

Thanks for thr info guys, but I am sad to say it is pretty rough. Rust in all the areas mentioned (the rockers scare me), floors and trunk are gone, etc. Just not worth it....

    Your cars look Cool!!!!
