Hello everyone. I'm working out a deal w/ a gentleman about this car. It's a '56 buick special. It was a two door hardtop but it has been made into a roadster. It has an Oldsmobile drivetrain installed in it. It has been converted to an open driveshaft rear end which is a gm 10-bolt. The body has no rust and the floors are as sold as can be. The car also comes with a 1959 Impala roof. It will definitely need a Buick engine, but i can find that. Stuff that's missing is the windshield and the back seat. Personally i never had to work on a chopped roof. but The car has had extra structural bracing done inside the passengers compartment. Should i have anything to worry about? Do do you guys think?
Replacement windshield is a tough find. But, Special and Century 2 doors from '54 '55 '56 will fit. I should've said; Special and Century 2 door HARTOPS or CONVERTIBLES (46R, 66R, 46C, 66C) I don't think the two door Sedan will fit (48 or 68) I would be, wary of; the structural integrty of the frame/body.
It's an interesting car, I saw it on the HAMB. I think it would be a ton of fun, but I'd be wary of spending too much money on it as I think the market is small for a car converted to a roadster. The windshield isn't bad to get, there are usually a few sellers on ebay with them. They're usually $400-$500, but it means they're still made new. I'd also be concerned about the open-drive conversion. How did he mount the rear? GM control arms, truck arms, 4-link etc. Just make sure the welds look good and the geometry makes some sense.
