58 dynaflow continuously variable transmission

    guys i have just found out about the dynaflow continuously variable transmission that was used in 1958. i am looking for info on how the transmission works but couldn't find anything in google. can any of you guys help?

    Going from memory here, but think it is called the Flite-Pitch Dynaflow and only used from 58-59. Had a GR instead of Low on the selector. Similar to the chevy Turbo-Glide trans used around the same time.
    Did a web search and not much came up. Probably need to find a 58 chassis manual to get some info. From what I recall, it used more of the torque converter to create different rpm's for power. Somewhat of a wider range Switch pitch design that may have lead to the development of the SP used on the TH400.

    Lexus claims to have created the automatic tranny that you couldn't feel shift. BS, Buick did it back in the 50's. You can get in a 58 Special and never know it's changing gears. Even with the pedal to the floor.

    Every time I drive my 62 Electra with its Dynaflow after not having driven for a while I always panic a bit when I don't feel it shift. Then, I remember it is a Dynaflow and I'm not supposed to feel it shift, and it is working just fine.
