Back in the 70's, I heard that there were Jeep Wagoneers that had Buick engines in them. Is it true and if so, what years? I have a 87 chevy 4x4 truck that need another engine and I have a feww 455s around. I would need a trans and transfer case that would fit the bop pattern, right?

The 350" Buick engine was referred to as the 'Dauntless 350' by Jeep. They used it between '68-'71. The old 225" V6 was used for several years, both before and after.

You can also find AMC engines with a TH400 tranny behind them....different bellhousing - but, same basic tranny. Would be easy to swap with a BOP or Chevy pattern and put in your GM engine of choice.

Hello. Do a search with like: "swap 455 truck." There are a bunch of threads onn this, even photos. I think I read that a big car frame mount will only need one hole drilled in the crossmember to bolt right in.

what trans and tcase are in your truck now? the 700r4 OD trans has a 27 or 28 spline output to your tcase. if you have the th400, you have 32 spline.

i put a pontiac engine and th400 in my 84 full-sized k5 blazer. had to build engine mounts, and get a kit from teckpak to replace the output shaft and tailhousing of my th400. i was able to keep the original NP208 tcase in the same location, and ditch the chevy motor and 700r4.

i also have used the dana 300 adapter from advance adapters, to mate up a shortshaft th400 to a NP242 with the input gear from the NP241.

things to watch out for- 1. starter and fuel pump, are they on the same side as the chevy? 2. if you get a new tcase, make sure it is same side drop (pass/driver) as your current front axle. 3. make SURE you get the output shaft angle right.

Not exactly, Rover used the 215 Al V8 and Rover derivatives until last year. The 300 is an Iron derivative of the 215 made by Buick from 64-67 till they changed designs to the 350.
