I'e been trying to do some research on a 64 Buick lesabre rear end, and pretty much all I can come up with is they'e fairly strong and they have zero aftermarket suppot. Does anyone know off hand overall axle width? Wms to wms. Also what gear options there were? Thanks in advance
Can't help you with axles but 64 Buick new car brochures say ..... diff ratios 3.07, 3.23, 3.42 across range, with 15 x 5.5 wheels and 710x15 tyres on Le Sabre, 15x6 wheels on Wildcat, Electra. Positive traction diff optional on all models.
According to. - http://classiccardatabase.com/postwar-models/Buick.php#Buick1964 -the rear thread should be 61 ” Dont know if it helps you.
Thanks for the info guys! So what my issue I'm running into is, I'm 100% stuck on a wheel I have on my car, but the offset is a little much for the car. When I corner hard or have stuff in the back, it will hit the body. Already clearanced my wheel houses as much as I possibly can so I'm at a point I need a rear end 1.5-2 inches OVERALL. I've been doing alot of reading and found rear ends in the realm of width I think I need but they are Ford 8.8s, which have a offset pinion. Will that offset pinion be a issue with the x frame and driveline running through the "tube"??
That depends on the amount of offset. You’ll probably have to crawl under the car and take some measures. From memory i would guess that the distans from yoke to the tube opening in the x is about 20 ”. So it has to be a huge offset before it will hit the frame. Another test is to remove the drive shaft from the rear axle and then move it from side to side, up and down. Then you can estimate how much space you’ll have.
