Looks a bit different dont it!! I made it from a ford 351 c unit ,rotated it so that cutout bit gives clearance at the back, cut out the holes, squashed some truck exhuast tube under the hoist to get the oval shape then a coat of rattle can to finish it off.
Took about 20 mins to make!!

That's the true spirit Ruston, Gold Coast engineering:TU:

Reminds me of this bloke I worked for in a little garage in Prosperpine, Qld. When he was using his hammer he always shouted "Prosperpine Engineering"

Must be lightweight considering the year. What was the donor engine car?

Hey Flynbuick, the motor is an SF block out of a 1970 GS "big car"thats about all I know of it's originality, but in a light car it gets goin'!!

    Ruston,

That SF code block is indeed of 1970 origin, 370 HP with 10:5:1 compression ratio :Smarty:

Hi Erik!! do you reckon that was advertised or actuall?

    Ruston,

1970 HP figures are gross horsepower.
Read this little story I've posted some times ago on this board:

"In 1971, the entire American automobile industry changed the way it rated horsepower. The older system, called brake or gross horsepower, was measured without a transmision attached to the engine. The engine ran open exhaust and was free of power-robbing accessories. The brake horsepower technique did not even require the engine to run it's own waterpump let alone a alternator, airpump or power-steeringpump.

In 1971, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) method for measuring net horsepower was adopted. Following SAE procedure J245, the engine was now required to run the test with all power accessoires, muffled exhaust and the transmission and torque converter in place.

The combination of lower power from less compression and a different way to rate power was a shock to car enthusiast throughout America. The big, bad 454 Chevy (sorry about this, was just in the text) that used to carry a 390 brake horsepower rating, now had a 285 net horsepower label.

This can be read as more than a 100 hp loss, unless you are careful and knowledgeable. Likewise, the 300 bhp version of the 350 with fourbarrel carb was now packing at just 175 net hp.''

That sure makes me feel better!

    :Brow:
Last summer the local speed shop had a special on dyno runs-$25. I was disappointed when my 425 only made 220 HP at the rear wheels on a dyno test. I should add that the operator shut it down at 5,000 RPM on my request because it was just broken in. The fan clutch was engaged and it also began making black smoke at that speed, possibly a carb problem?

Anyway, a drop of 140 HP from the factory rating of 360 sure was a shock to me.
    :ball:

BTW: That dual snorkel air cleaner looks AWESOME!:beer

220 HP at the rear wheels isn't bad at all, SAE HP was measured at the flywheel. I don't think peak horsepower will go over 5000 rpm?

I would love to hear that nailhead roar :3gears:

    I like it!

    Nice!:TU:

This web site is dynamite! Where else can a Buick guy in Kentucky view an Austrailian's wonderful ride because a fellow from the Netherlands was good enough to put in on line after a man form Minnesota was wise enough to start a Buick V8 site we could all use and enjoy.

I agree. That's why I've been spending all my spare time here. You just said what I have been thinking. The local website I hang out on is getting boring, too many Ford and Chevy guys. I'm one of only 2 or 3 Buick guys who post there.

This website really is great, I never realized how many diehard Buick guys there really is out there! Hats off to the guys who made their idea a reality!:TU:

    Re: I like it!

I'm sure this world would be a better place if all the great politic leaders were driving a Buick:

    "Hey George,
Just calling you on the hot line to make sure you bring that 4 bbl carb next time you visit France.

    Happy Buicking,
    Jacques Chirac"
