Did this year come with rear belts as an option, and if so if I wanted to install them (which I do) how would I go about it? Any tips would be great.

    Thanks,

I know they could be dealer installed. For the 64 Riviera the Factory option code of B-4 was for the rear belts.

I am not sure if they did but if they did you can check and see if you have anything under the back set that looks like it might be used for putting seat belts in. If Not then you will need to do a little fab work and get you hands on a welder so you can weld in a backing plate and a bolt or nut set up to attach the seat belts to the Floor of the car. The backing plate will give you the strength and also spread the load out on the bolt or nut what ever way it is attached to secure the ends of your seat belts. It is harder to explain then it is to show you.
I would think you have anchor points under the seat some where if they had them. if not just add them like I said, I have seen people just drill a hole and use large washers on the underside to prevent the bolts from tearing out the floor BUT I would NOT recommend doing it that way! WELD THEM IN!
I Think 1965 was the year it became mandatory that seat belts were in all U.S. cars. If my memory is not to shot.... that was around the time when Ralph Nader was on his tear about car safety.

Good info. Thanks to both of you for it, I am going to pull the seat out now and take a look.
