this new project has been sanded and ready to paint, but I can't keep it inside or afford to paint it. Rather than primer, should I coat it with por 15?
Are you referring to the chassis or the whole car? Chassis can be POR'd, but I wouldn't paint the car with POR-15. Doesn't sand well, and not made to paint the outside of a car with.
POR 15 will be a bear to get off when you want to paint it. Also, will turn milky fron the UV in the sun. Use some red oxide primer and cover it with plastic for the winter. - Bill
Thanks for the resounding "don't you do it" Onto another matter. Does anyone know which parts will crossover to a 64 wildcat from other 64 buick models? front Bumper, some trim?
Most parts are exact matches across the 64 Buick Big Cars except trim features to differentiate between cars such as grilles, cladding, name plates, etc. For instance, the whole dash will swap between any Buick Big Car. I know for sure the front bumper from a LeSabre will swap to a Wildcat. Grilles were for sure different. As well as the Electra had tail lights like the 63 Buicks did. 64 LeSabre and Wildcat/Electra engine parts do not mix and match as the LeSabre had the 300 CI motor, while the higher series got the Nailhead. Seats match up, as well as fenders, doors, trunk lids, hoods, windshields, and wiring harnesses. If you have a specific part in mind you wish to swap, just ask here as some one may have already done it.
only 65 on the wildcat, electra, lesabre will fit our cars dash pad Don. on the other question por 15 the frame makes it look great here is a pic of my 65 wildcat frame por 15 on it Greg
Thanks for the info on parts swapping. The por15'd frame looks good too. To continue on this wildcat discussion. One of my coworkers has a 64 impala, which with my now owning a 64 cat, prompted some crap talking...I had assumed my car would be worth near the same amount on NADA, but there is no comparison to the value of the impala even though there was somewhere around 150,000 less wildcats built.
sorry to change the subject but how do you apply the por-15 and how does it compair to powdercoating (price and durability)? I ask because i was always told powdercoating was the way to go on a frame. I'm about to do the frame on my 58 and I want something to last.
Just wait.............. Just wait and see how Our Buick will go in price, The Impalas and the Ford Fairlanes and what not are big now but There will come a day when the market swings towards us! People will want something different then the cookie cutter cars and want the "LOOKS AND POWER" all in one and thats when we will get to shine ( I HOPE! ) I gues it is because Buick did not have a huge Add campaign back in the early and mid Sixties for the mid range cars, So they are less popular? o No: Don
i applied the por 15 with a gravity feed sprayer 15psi to the gun the por 15 is more a stain than a paint it says you can spray it right over rust but that would be the llok you get as well sandblast it and make it look good and then por 15 it as far as the chevy guy goes let him know that every one does chevy's and ford's because you don't have to work to get the pieces for them they can come repoped right from a book let him know that lazyness must be a trait with chevy owners for that is why he must have one ou: :blast: Greg :bglasses: :TU:
Yeah! What Greg said. If you're redoing a Buick you need creativity, perserverance, connections, friends, money.......vision, etc. etc. To redo a Ford or Chevy all you need is a credit card and a catalog. Call Year One and ask for an Impala steering wheel and they'll say "What color", ask about a Wildcat and they'll say "Whats that?" My favorite comment about my car is "Nice car....what the hell is it?" Ames Performance sells Pontiac parts and some of the Bonneville/GP parts cross over (Ted Nagle pointed that out. Thank you Ted). I called to request a catalog and they asked what car I was working on. When I told them a '65 Wildcat they REFUSED TO SEND ME A CATALOG! :af: Talk about outcast! But, being the smart Buick man I called back to order parts for my "65 Bonneville". Rick
