    Which time?

I've owned this car once before. First time was back in 2006, it came from Austin Texas.
This time it came from Idaho.
I sold it to Mike Sobotka, and bought it back 7 years later. Hey, at least I knew the car, and there were no surprises.

I had an interesting phone conversation earlier tonight. I found an old registration in the glove box, did a little people finder, got a phone number, and talked to a previous owner.
This phone call confirmed my feelings about the car now,and the last time I owned it. The odometer shows 40,380 miles.
Must be 140,380 you say on a nearly 50 year old car right?
    WRONG!
The guy I spoke with tonight tells me he bought it from a friend of his in the early 90's, and his friend had just had the car repainted, and the vinyl top replaced. He said the odometer reading was 32,700-ish, and the car had just been found in a barn where it had been sitting for over 20 years. During it's time in the barn, the car received a healthy covering of bird/pigeon crap that ruined the paint and top.
The guy told me he had to go through the carb/fuel system, then he said it was just like a new car, and had the new car smell. He said he drove it infrequently the first 5 years of ownership, then parked it off to the side of the driveway with a car cover for the next 10 years. He said when he parked it, the odometer was just under 40k. He said a friend of his wife's husband saw the car sitting and inquired in 2005, and he agreed to sell the car rather then continue to let it sit and deteriorate under the car cover. This guy is who I bought the car from.
When I bought it last time it was either at 39k or had just turned 40k on the odometer.
Mike S. hasn't driven the car much in the time he's owned it either.
The guy I spoke with tonight said this car was one of those "original owner got drafted and went to Vietnam, and didn't return home, and the car sat in his parents barn" stories, but actually true.

I'd love to lead you all to believe that this is a cream puff, but the 10 years under a car cover holding moisture didn't do the car any favors, and the base of the windshield and base of the rear window need help, which I intend to fix immediately. Might even treat her to an overall paint job eventually, but for now probably just some blending.
    More later................
