Read somewhere, that you could use the whole GN drivetrain, including the trans and rearend, or did i just imagine this? Is yours set up the same way?
I used everything but the rear. I never tried to actually fit the GN 8.5 in the car, but I did compare the two side by side. It appeared to us that the GN rear mounting locations were at the wrong angle to fit correctly under the 65.
Well I got the car back from paint today :eek2: Just loaded all of the chrome up in the truck to get powder coated tomorrow.
That's the plan. I'm going to put a power 6 logo in the centercap between the tail lights, and the Grand National Intercooled logos on the fenders.
Very, very nice car. Are you going to keep the trim blacked out in gn fashion or going with the original stainless and chrome look? i think it will look awsome either way just curious. i also love torque thrusts on it but would look cool as hell with black gnx wheels too. that is going to be a fun car to drive. :TU: great job.
I'm having all of the chrome powder coated black. Bumpers, door handles, window trim, everything. The only chrome I think i'm going to keep on the car is the "BUICK" letters on the hood and deck lid. For now i'm going to keep those wheels on it, but if I can find a good set of GN or GNX wheels. I would probably do that.
I already have the bucket and rear seats re-covered. I also have the headliner. I just have to put the fusebox/wiring back in the car and figure out where i want to mount the computer. After that i just have to put the dash and door panels back on the car.
Im just curious. where are you located. just wondering if any of us are ever going to see this thing in person at a buick meet?
I'm located in Smyrna, Delaware. I'm trying like hell to get the car done in time for the East Coast Buick Regional event at Cecil County Dragway on September 21st and 22nd.
Very cool build. I considered going in this direction when I built mine. Now I can see the results through your build.
I got everything back from the powder coater today. Everything came out pretty good except the grill. Somehow it got bent up. I don't know if them heating it in the oven as part of the process did it, or it got bent when it was in the back of my dad's truck when he totalled it on the way there two weeks ago. Anyway took them another grill and they said it should be done monday. I did get the fuse box in. I'm also in the process of installing new window felts, glass run chanels and Vent windows weatherstrips. Now that i got the valve covers back i can put those back on and get ready to get the car running. If it doesn't rain tomorrow i should have more pictures.
x2. I even bought a rusty T-Type that was being raced to use the driveline. It turned out the engine was in bad shape but at least I got my money back by parting it out and ended up with the transmission free, which is in my car. Nice work :TU: I'm looking forward to seeing the end results.
well I wasn't able to pull the car out of the garage because of the rain, but I was able to get the tail lights and reverse lights in. I'm waiting for the glue on the tail emblem to dry and I should be done with the back of the car.
Finally got all the parts back from the powder coater. Have everything back on the car except the door handles/locks and the window trim. Picture from the back is kind of dark. I waited way too long to take the pics. I also have the rear emblem off again because I didn't glue the Power 6 logo on straight ou:
