    Can anyone tell me what this vin no. tells me about a car, the vin No. is C444375B126718. It is supposed to be a 65 GS that I'm considering buying, mainly for parts.
    Also a copy of the title says "Reconstructed Vehicle" , the title is from Tennessee!
    Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks

    4 44 37 5 B 126718

    4 = Buick

    44 = Skylark V8

    37 = 2 drs HT coupe

    5 = Modelyear 1965

    B = Baltimore production plant

    126718 = Baltimore production number (started with 100 001)

    Gran Sport was a mid-65 option package, so not a separate series.

    Look for engine code LR for the 10.25:1 compression 400 CI
    or enginecode NA for the 8.75:1 compression 400 CI

    1965 2 door sport coupe made in the Baltimore plant . The last 6 digits are the sequence numbers.

    Wow that was fast!!! Thanks guys, so there was no actual series of number on the vin to determine a GS from a none GS? So pardon my ignorance but how would someone know if there buying a genuine GS?
    Also does anyone know about the "Reconstructed Vehicle" part?

    Where are the engine numbers located on the block to determine high or low compression motor? Thanks

    Engine code and special GS badges on the car and dashboard can tell you more, or the buildsheet ofcourse.

    Information on the production number from specialists like the Sloan Museum,will reveal if this is a true GS option Skylark or not.

    Front right of the block....:Smarty:

    But if you can also find the casting number on the rear of the engine, where the bell housing is connected to the block, I can tell you more.....

    Ok guys! This is where I really need some help! I'm looking at a car in the US, I live in Canada. I have a copy of the title, and have sent it off to US Customs, they need 72 hrs to check their data base to see if its a stolen vehicle or not. When I talked to the lady at US Customs, I told her I would call on Friday, before I drive all the way down to get it, just to make sure everything is "OK", she told me that all they could tell me is if they have checked it or not, and not wheather they have discovered if its stolen or not, and I wouldn't know until I showed up at customs with the car!!!
    I feel the guy I'm dealing with is an honest guy, but stranger things have happened.
    SO would anyone know where I can find a web site, or a place to call to see if this car is legit, I'd hate to drive 1800 miles, shell out cash, and get to customs, only to donate it to their, fenced in compound!
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Chris

    Thanks I tried that one, and I tried Carfax, but both require a 17 digit vin mine is 14!
    Both sites said anything pre-81 won't likely have any history on them! But Thanks Again!:TU:
