I've located a 65 Sports Wagon, body is completely redone and repainted-it is really nice too. Problem is virtually all the exterior and interior trim pieces, including the bumpers and grill are being held for ransom by a chroming shop. Apparently the guy wants 1500 bucks before he returns these items to the owner. I guess they have all be redone. Perhaps the price is not too high.
Anyhow, how hard would it be to locate all these parts? Probably extremely difficult considering the age of the vehicle. Anyone out there are a wrecked one or ??????, that would have most of the trim parts? Curious at this point. Heck, I can just about steal the vehicle but without the trim pieces, it's really a moot point me thinks. thanks in advance as always.

Sounds like a tough choice....$1500 for 2 bumpers, 1 grille plus a bunch of trim doesn't sound that bad at all

Finding anything wagon related is generally tough - they were ridden hard and left out wet. Few survive in Mint condition. With that in mind, finding a 65 wagon to get parts from is one thing, finding one in decent enough condition that you'd want to USE its parts for a resto - without rechroming them - is even further far-fetched.

Is it the sellers' intent to stiff the chrome shop if he doesn't sell ??

You may try contacting the chrome shop, letting them know you intend to buy the car, and are willing to assume half ?? 3/4ths ?? of the bill

....betting here that some cash in the hand is better than chrome with no home on his shelves

1965 Sportwagon parts are hard to find!

I agree with the previous post; $1,500 for the two bumpers, grill and all the trim (there's alot of it), all redone, sounds like a good deal to me.

If you can get the wagon for a "steal" price, go inspect the bumpers/trim at the body shop; if it all looks nice, I'd work some kind of a three-way deal between the current owner, the bodyman, and you. Even if you spend the whole $1,500 - if the trim's all redone and nice, you're still bucks ahead.

Can you post pics of the car? Sporty fans are waiting!

Thanks Alan and Steve and others. Yes, of course your right on the cost of rechoming etc. No, I've not talked to the chrome shop but have asked the owner via email for their phone number. Yes, I'll try posting some pics here.

    Oh yeah!

If that car has a nice, rust-free body and you can buy it right, $1,500 trim notwithstanding, you have to nab it! I'm liking what I see so far alot.

Gentleman hasked me to remove his email name and phone number

On the 65 'lark wagon as mentioned above, I've talked to the guy several times and he is very difficult to deal with. He sent me an email stating he can get 1K for the wagon at a junk yard. Regardless, it's difficult to communicate with him. He told me to come down pick up the car and "someone" would have a pink slip for me, wasn't sure it runs O.K. now but did run. Anyhow, I'm not going to pursue this thing, so if someone is interested, read the above stuff and contact this guy. I'll post his phone number and email address.
Car is located in So. Cal. Don't call me on this please, I'm moving on.
