Bought this car back in Feb. 2003 . 1965 Skylark Gran Sport . Since then have freshened up the motor ( nothing major ) , freshened up the trans ( Super Turbine 300 ) , put in 3.90 gear with Auburn posi , added Buick dual quads ( after having them re-done and air cleaner re-chromed ) . Took the car to Milan Dragway and made 1 pass , 14.485 at 96.832 . Now what I was trying to get to was 13.95 or so . Is that possible ? Any suggestions ? Am willing to pull the motor / trans again and put a little more $ into it (by the way also had the heads done ) , but I can't do the work myself so always have to find someone else to do it . The car is not a race car , nor do I want it to be , I just want to know it's a 13 second car . Have done other things to it , interior, body and may even have it repainted this winter (although it's in very , very nice condition already) but want a nice BCA car for shows that may not be #1 but darn nice . Without making this non-stock looking can I get to 13's ?

    Thank you ,

What was your 60 foot time on that run, the MPH was there but it seems you were spinning off the line. You might also want to check the switch on the throttle linkage to make sure your variable pitch is operating correctly.

    Re: 65 GS Time Slip

Every tenth in your 60' time is roughly a tenth and a half on the big end, putting you at 14 flat with a 1.9X 60 foot time. You should easily pull a 1.95 or so with your setup on a tire, you will need at least drag radials on there to hook with the stock suspension. Do you brake-stall the car, or just mash it on the 3rd yellow? I have had my best launches by brake-stalling the car to about 1850 RPM and letting 'er rip on the 3rd yellow. You may also want to wire in a manual switch for the switch pitch solenoid, so you can manually set the car to high stall for the launch and switch to low stall in 2nd gear to get your MPH up. Sorry if I'm rambling here, I'm a bit of a quarter mile nut:grin:

George, those are respectible times for a nailhead powered GS!...
For starters, try a different air cleaner setup. The dual quad air cleaner isn't too bad, but those of you running a single 4bbl, can notice SEVERAL tenths improvement just by going to an open style air cleaner.
A faster mechanical advance rate in your distributor....the dual quad spec worked very well on my 66.
What kind of exhaust system are you using?.....Just removing the tailpipes can help. Open manifolds might be an option for you as well. You just need to fabricate an extension for one side.

Artie pointed out your 60 ft times seem low....Yes, my '66 with basicly stock suspension generally turns 1.9's with a ST400 trans and 4.11 rear. I turn mid to high 13's with a modified 425.

    Best run was:
    13.411 at 101.83 MPH
    1.973 60 ft
    8.585 at 81.31 in the 1/8 mile

That was 1995....I can't believe it's been that long since I've run it down the quarter!

How hard is it get a 4sd car into the 13's?

Some of the chevy boys at work think I'm nuts when I tell them I going to get my 66 GS to run them. They yes to say 14s, but not 13's with A/C in place.

I pull the engine last week and sent to engine builder. How much must be spent?
