I need a good drivers side door glass for a '65 Skylark 2dr. HT. I need one with the green tint, so it has to be off of a factory AC car. The one in my car has a really bad scratched area up the rear edge of it where a piece of the weatherstrip wore through years ago and gouged it every time it was rolled up and down.

    Brian,
What did the non-AC tinted glass look like?

    Brian,

I will email Keith Ladderud at bkladderud@comcast.net, he is in WA state, which I know isn't close to you, but he specializes in 64/65 Skylark, Special and GS parts and may be able to help you. I will let you know what he says or feel free to contact him direct.

    Thanks, Chris

    Brian,

Already heard back from Keith, here was his reply:

"I guess I need to know what "good" means.

I have 1965 HT door glass that is tinted but it is scratched. I dont remember how "bad" it is but I can look tomorrow.

Just to let you know, not all air cars had tinted glass and not all tinted glass cars were factory air cars. Tinted glass was an option."

How "good" do you need it?

    Thanks, Chris

I need a door glass that isn't scratched--it is for a show car and the one I have in there now is scratched. A few specs here and there are okay, but a scratch really stands out when you clean a car up and have it at a show.
Every '64 and '65 I have ever encountered with factory AC had the green tinted glass in it and every non-AC car I have seen had clear glass in it. I didn't realize it was an option.

    Brian,
I have a complete set of tinted glass from a non-AC car. I'll check out what it looks like. Every AC car I've seen had tinted glass, as far as I know it was required when a car was ordered with air. I know of a beautiful red/white 65 GS 4 speed car that AC was added to - conspicuous because the tinted glass is absent.

Thanks Mark! I didn't ask you up front because I remembered you saying the car you parted out didn't have AC on it. I guess ordering tinted glass was an option on non-AC cars, but was automatic when you ordered AC. I will take a picture at lunch time today of the scratched area on mine so you will see what I am talking about.

Brian, Keith sent me this, might be worth a try.

Try this guy, his name is Tim at tim@autocityclassic.com. He is the one that gave me a quote on glass for my convertible. 800-828-2212. I believe that he is in Minnesota.

I will give them a call. They are actually who I bought my front windsheild from--they come to the Charlotte Autofair swap meet and I picked it up there and didn't have to pay any shipping. I didn't realize they sold door glass--I thought they just did front and rear windshields.
Only problem is though that I have a feeling the tint on a new glass will look different when put next to the old rear glass, so that is why I was looking for a good used one.

Brian, I got the glass down, but I have to clean it up - it's been up there for a number of years! I'll let you know later.
