headlights won't go down (again) - tested the relay under hood hinge and it is bad (again). where can i get a good replacement for this relay? i opened the one in there now, and the contact for the motor circuit is completely burned up. Motor seems to work fine when it gets 12V, so i don't think it is an over-current problem.

Maybe the model year 1965 relay is the same ?

I think this relay is still available but sorry I do not have the PN. I bought one at NAPA a few years ago. If you take your old one to NAPA they can probably match it.

Are the headlights binding, thereby placing an excessive load on the relay ? :Do No:

Hey Randy thats a possibility which could shorten the life of relay. If the micro limit switch on the motor isn't set properly there will be a moment of high current draw as the headlamp assembly opens and hits the stops but the motor continues to run.

The switch should break juuuuust before hitting the stops because the motor will drift a bit after power is interrupted. The drive cables are designed to wind up a slight amount to hold tension so the light assemblies don't bounce once the motor shuts off.

You have to be really careful when adjusting these switches.
